Bariq is a pass-and-play party game for Face to Face and Imposter. Scores, teams and answers never leave your phone. This page lists every single thing that does leave it.
Bariq does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide your real identity. Because the game is played on a single shared device, we have no way to know who is playing or which real person typed a given nickname. The information below is limited to what the app needs to work.
| Data | Why we hold it |
|---|---|
| Player name / nickname | Shown on screen during play so players can tell teams apart. Your nickname is also saved to our servers so it is restored after you reinstall the app. It is not tied to a real identity and is never shown to anyone outside your own device. |
| Language and theme | Your language and dark/light theme choice, saved so the app opens the way you left it on a new install. |
| Sound, haptic and reminder settings | Your notification and reminder preferences. These are applied on your device and are not sent to our servers. |
| Data | Why we hold it |
|---|---|
| Anonymous device key | Android's ANDROID_ID or Apple's vendor identifier, which your operating system generates for apps. We use it as the key to your saved settings. It contains no name, email or account, and we cannot use it to identify you as a person. |
| Random player ID | A random identifier generated on your device the first time you open the app. It tags your saved settings and your play records so the two can be linked to each other. It is not derived from anything about you. |
| Play activity | When you play a question in Face to Face or a word in Imposter, the identifier of that question or word is sent along with your random player ID. We use this to see which content players actually use, so we can retire content nobody plays and spot broken entries. It does not include your answers, score, or who won. |
| Push notification token | If you allow notifications, we store a delivery token for your app installation so reminders can be sent to you. It is not a contact list, and we cannot read your messages or other notifications. |
| Device and app details | Device model, operating system version, app version and platform, submitted with your notification token to help us diagnose delivery problems on specific devices. |
| Request metadata | Like any web service, our hosting provider records the IP address, timestamp and requested URL of each request in order to serve it and protect against abuse. |
None of these identifiers are linked to your name, address, phone number or any account, and we do not use them to build a profile of you.
We do not operate our own analytics or crash-reporting SDK. The only advertising and delivery SDKs in the app are listed in Section 5.
We use the information described above only to:
Most of Bariq lives entirely on your device. The following is kept in the app's private storage and is not transmitted to us:
Your player name, language, theme and anonymous player ID are stored both on your device and on our servers. That is the only information duplicated off-device.
You can remove everything stored on your device at any time by clearing the app's storage in your device settings, or by uninstalling the app. Neither action removes the copy held on our servers — see Section 11 to have that deleted.
Two operating-system behaviours are worth knowing: on Android, system backup may restore your settings to the same device after a reinstall; on iOS, the system keystore can retain your anonymous player ID after the app is uninstalled. In both cases the restored value is the random identifier, not anything you typed into a public field.
Bariq talks to one service, our content and settings API. This is the complete list of requests the app can make, with what each one contains.
| Endpoint | Method | Sent |
|---|---|---|
| /category | get | Nothing. Fetches the list of question categories. |
| /jimsin | get | Nothing. Fetches the Face to Face question library. |
| /blanko | get | Nothing. Fetches the Imposter word library. |
| /player-state/{deviceId} | get | Your anonymous device key, as the address of the record. |
| /player-state/{deviceId} | put | Device key, random player ID, player name, language, theme, and whether onboarding was completed. |
| /jimsin/mark | post | Random player ID and the ID of the question you played. Sent after the round ends, never with your answer. |
| /blanko/mark | post | Random player ID and the ID of the word you played. Sent after the round ends, never with your score. |
| /push-token | post | Push delivery token, platform, device model, OS version and app version. Sent only if you grant notification permission. |
Every request is made over HTTPS. Requests that fail are discarded silently and retried later; nothing is queued on any third-party service.
The app checks whether a connection is available before it will start a game, because it needs a working connection to fetch content and to serve advertising. This check is performed locally by your operating system and is not reported to us or to any third party.
Bariq relies on a small number of external providers. They process information under their own privacy policies, not this one.
We use Google AdMob to display advertising in the free version of Bariq. AdMob may process the device advertising identifier, your IP address or a coarse location derived from it, app information, and advertising-related usage data in order to serve and measure ads and prevent abuse. See Section 6.
Our content and settings API is hosted on Vercel. Vercel processes the standard technical information needed to serve and secure any web request, including IP addresses and timestamps.
Bariq is built with Expo. Reminder notifications are delivered through Expo's push notification service, which acts as a courier: it receives your delivery token and forwards the notification to your device. It does not gain access to your notification content or contacts.
Google Play and the Apple App Store process information associated with installing, updating and using the application through their platforms. If a future version of Bariq offers purchases, payment information will be handled by the relevant app store and never by us.
Bariq does not currently offer in-app purchases.
Bariq is free and funded by advertising, using interstitial and rewarded ad formats. Ads are served by Google AdMob.
Advertising and privacy choices vary by country or region and are subject to applicable law and platform requirements.
Bariq is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13, or the higher minimum age required by applicable local law.
Parents or guardians may contact us using Section 14.
Different types of information are kept for different periods, depending on why they are held.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information Bariq holds.
Bariq is available internationally. Depending on the services used, the information processed by Bariq, Google, Vercel or Expo may be handled on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States.
Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, the relevant provider may rely on mechanisms such as adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), or other legally recognised transfer mechanisms.
Depending on where you live and which laws apply to you, you may have the right to:
These rights may arise under laws including the GDPR, UK GDPR, CPRA, LGPD, PIPEDA, and other applicable privacy laws.
Email us using Section 14. Tell us the app you are using, your player name and roughly when you last played, and we will locate the matching record. You do not need to provide any identity document to make a request.
On request we will delete your server-side record, which means removing your device key, random player ID, player name, language and theme, and the play-activity entries associated with your player ID. Your device will still hold a local copy until you clear the app's storage or uninstall it.
Because some information is processed by third parties, certain requests — for example anything relating to advertising held by Google — must be handled directly with those providers using the controls described in Section 6.
Bariq is a mobile application and does not use web browser cookies as a website would. As a result, the app does not respond to browser "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals.
Advertising preferences are instead managed through the advertising settings and privacy controls provided by your device, operating system, app store, or the relevant advertising services.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to Bariq, our services, third-party providers, applicable laws, or our privacy practices.
Questions, concerns, deletion requests, or anything else about this Privacy Policy or how Bariq handles your information? Contact us by email:
Please include the app name Bariq, and if your request is about stored data, your player name, so we can find the right record.
If you believe we have not handled a privacy request correctly, you may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
